Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have 5 to 10 years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably within the Architectural/Engineering consulting industry. As an Assistant Controller, you will play a crucial role in overseeing our financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all accounting processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the company's financial accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and forecasts on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and provide necessary support and documentation.
  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage cash flow by monitoring receivables, payables, and cash balances, and recommend strategies to optimize liquidity.
  • Review and reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial records regularly.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making processes.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, accounting principles, and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Mentor and train junior accounting staff, providing guidance and support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.
  • 5 to 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on financial reporting and analysis.
  • Prior experience in the engineering consulting or other professional services industry is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP principles, financial accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Deltek, SAP, or similar platforms) and advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and accuracy in all work performed.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to collaborate with colleagues at all levels.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities as needed.
